PURPOSE: To manufacture a small diameter superconductive wire which shows good superconductivity by melting a prepared initial matter and next forming this melting matter in a threadlike shape and subsequently forming a metallic coating layer and performing heat treatment.
CONSTITUTION: An oxide superconductor, a material which contains elements to compose an oxide superconductive matter, and a mixture of them are prepared to be used as an initial matter. The prepared initial matter is housed in a crucible 1 made of platinum or the like, and next the crucible 1 is heated by a heating device 2 so as to melt the initial matter. In succession the melting matter 3 is drawn from a dice which is installed in the crucible 1 so that a core wire 4 is obtained. Next this core wire 4 is guided, for example, into a metal coating container 5 so as to coat the core wire 4 with a metallic melting matter 6. Next the dice installed on the bottom part of the coating container 5 is used to squeeze out the excessive metallic melting matter 6 so that a metal coated wire 7 can be obtained. Next the metal coated wire 7 is guided into a heating furnace 8 to perform heat treatment in an oxidative atmosphere, so that a superconductive wire 9 can be manufactured.
