PURPOSE: To obtain a unidirectional solidification structure and an excellent magneto-striction property and prevent generation of cracks and blowholes of ingot by forming a refractory layer of the specific content on the surface of the upper inner wall of a casting mold made of steel where the molten metal exists.
CONSTITUTION: Materials 5 to be blended are melted by a plasma flame 7, and a melting part 8 is formed to the upper part of a cylindrical refractory 3. A bottom base 4 is lowered by a lowering device, and the solidified super magneto-striction alloy material 9 is continuously drawn out of the lower part of a water-cooled mold. The cylindrical refractory 3 is composed of rare metal- oxygen ceramics, or rare metal-fluorine ceramics, and structured so as to be inserted into the water-cooled mold to enable hanging. The water-cooled mold is provided with a water passage 10 therein, the cooling water is press-fed from a water-supplying port 11, discharged from a discharging port, and is designed so as to mainly cool the solidified super magneto-striction alloy material 9 and the bottom table 4.
