To provide a manufacturing method of a pigment dispersion for an inkjet recording ink that is excellent in preservation stability and jetting stability and satisfies both high color developability on a plain paper and a glossy paper and high gloss on a glossy paper.
The manufacturing method of the pigment dispersion comprises mixing and dispersing water, a dispersant, a pigment and a polymer thereby modifying the surface of the pigment particle with the polymer, where the polymer contains at least, as constituents thereof, 50 wt.% or more of benzyl acrylate and not more than 15 wt.% of (meth)acrylic acid and has an acid value of 50 mg KOH/g or more and not more than 120 mg KOH/g and a weight-average molecular weight of 20,000 or more and not more than 120,000 while the amount of the dispersant at the time of dispersion is 95 wt.% or more and not more than 300 wt.% based on the pigment when the weight-average molecular weight of the polymer is 50,000 or more and not more than 120,000 and is 45 wt.% or more and less than 180 wt.% based on the pigment when the weight-average molecular weight of the polymer is 20,000 or more and less than 50,000.
