To provide a method for producing a sheet-like product, using any organic solvent little in the production process, thus leading to low environmental burden, and good in total yield through the overall process, and to provide the resultant sheet-like product having soft touch feeling and good in appearance grade.
The method for producing the sheet-like product comprises the following steps (1) to (3) in this order. The step (1) comprises making a nonwoven fabric using extrafine fiber-producible fibers each using, as at least one component, a copolyester composed of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol as the main constituents, containing 5-12 mol% of sodium 5-sulfoisophthalate based on the total acid component, containing 0.1-100 ppm of titanium atoms or aluminum atoms and containing no antimony atoms or containing, if any, 30 ppm or less thereof. The step (2) comprises impregnating the nonwoven fabric with a self-emulsifiable polyurethane aqueous dispersion to impart it with a self-emulsifiable polyurethane. The step (3) comprises developing extrafine fibers by treating the resultant nonwoven fabric with an aqueous alkaline solution.
