PURPOSE: To provide a material for cleaning exhaust gas, which acts effectively on an exhaust gas of high oxygen concentration containing particulates, hydrocarbon (hereafter called as HC), and NOx, and removes not only particulates and NOx but also HC and CO efficiently.
CONSTITUTION: A material for cleaning exhaust gas comprises the first cleaning member composed mainly of porous ceramic installed at the inlet side of the exhaust gas and the second cleaning member composed of a heat resistant porous filter carrying a catalyst installed at the outlet side. The catalyst consists of (a) at least one kind of alkali metal, (b) at least one kind of element selected from a group of Cu, Co, Mn, Mo, and V, and (c) at least one kind of rare earth element.
