PURPOSE: To obtain an article having a smooth nonabrasive antislip coating by applying a coating on a substrate such as paper, which coating contains a binder having a specific grass transition temperature and thermally expansive microbeads in a predetermined ratio.
CONSTITUTION: A coating composition is prepared by blending (A) about 80-99 wt.% of a binder having a grass transition temperature not less than about -30°C (example: polymethyl methacrylate) and (B) about 20-1 wt.% of thermally expansive microbeads having particle sizes before expansion of about 5-30 μm. An article with a substrate having a smooth nonabrasive antislip coating on the surface is prepared by applying a coating on a substrate such as paper, film, or a woven or nonwoven fabric, which coating has a dry static coefficient of friction, when tested in accordance with ASTM Method 1894 against an aluminum plate having an anodized surface with roughness of less than 0.8 μm, of at least 0.6; and a dry dynamic coefficient of friction of at least 0.8.
