To obtain a measuring device by which an erroneous readout and an erroneous input are eliminated and by which an addressee error is eliminated when a consumption amount is charged by a method wherein a character readout part is applied to a measurement indication part and an device-information indication part and a measured value and device information are read out so as to be stored in and displayed on a portable measuring device body part.

A fluid-consumption-amount measuring part 1b measures the consumption amount of a fluid 1a by counting the number of pulses or by metering a speed of rotation. A consumption-amount nemeric code part 1c converts the consumption amount of the fluid 1a into a consumption-amount numeric code, and a measurement indication part 2 indicates a measured value. A discrimination-name numeric code part 1d converts device information on a user name, an installation place or the like into a discrimination name code so as to be displayed and indicated on a device-information indication part 3. A character readout part 5 at a portable measuring device body part 7 is applied to the measurement indication part 2 and the device-information indication part 3 at a measuring device 1, a measured value and the device information are read out, stored and displayed, and the information is sent to a data processing and control part. An operation in which an operator observes the consumption amount so as to be input is omitted, and an addressee error is eliminated when the consumption amount is charged.
