To provide an electromagnetic contactor of which abnormal wear of a built-in degaussing contact is prevented by restraining generation of surge at a closing coil in the process of turn-on operation, together with the application of the closing coil as an AC-DC common use.
The mechanical latch type electromagnetic contactor has a latch mechanism 4 holding a main circuit contact at a turn-on position exciting the closing coil 2 by a turn-on command, mechanically locking and holding the main contact at the turn-on position after turn-on; and a built-in contact 5 for degaussing the closing coil interlocking with the movement of the latch mechanism. After enabling to use an alternating current power source 7 and a direct current power source 9 by arranging a rectifying current 8 to a power supply circuit 3 of the closing coil, the built-in contact is connected to a power supply side of the rectifying circuit, the electromagnetic energy of the closing coil at the time of turning off of the built-in contact of the closing coil in a process of the turn-off operation, and cutting the excitation of the closed coil, is absorbed in the rectifying circuit, and the surge voltage to be generated between the built-in contacts is prevented.
