Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical seal in which charging of a rotary ring with static electricity can be suppressed.SOLUTION: A mechanical seal M1 is provided that comprises: a rotary ring 21 provided in a rotary shaft 20 inserted into and through a casing; a fixed ring 22 axially opposed to the rotary ring; and elastic means 23, 24 pressing one of the rotary ring and the fixed ring to the other side so that opposed seal faces of the rotary ring and the fixed ring are kept in contact with each other, the mechanical seal M1 partitioning a first space at axial one side and a second space at axial the other side with the seal faces interposed between them. The fixed ring is made of a sintered body of SiC. A diamond film is formed on the seal face opposed to the rotary ring, of the fixed ring, and a diamond film continuous with the diamond film of the seal face, is formed on an outer circumferential surface or an inner circumferential surface of the fixed ring. A volume resistivity of the fixed ring with the diamond film formed therein is 10to 10Ω cm.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
