The retrieval condition of the image to be browsed inputted in a medical image observation device 3 is simultaneously transmitted through a network 4 to the respective image keeping servers 2 and the respective image keeping servers 2 retrieve a data base by the retrieval condition. The retrieved results of the respective image keeping servers 2 are transmitted through the network 4 to the medical image observation device 3 and the medical image observation device 3 prepares a list from the received retrieved results of the respective image keeping servers 2 and displays the list on the screen of the medical image observation device 3. In such a manner, in this system, since the medical image observation device 3 simultaneously transmits the retrieval condition to the respective image keeping servers 2 and the respective image keeping servers 2 transmit the retrieved results to the medical image observation device 3, retrieval waiting time is shortened and the image stored in the plural image keeping servers 2 is retrieved in a short time.
