To provide the medical image processing equipment which can easily segment and extract a subject image to be observed, and prevent its deformation by erosion or dilation made in the segmentation and extraction process.
For the extraction of a connected-image region selected and specified by a user in a projected three-dimensional image displayed on a display, the medical image processing equipment is provided with: a starting point designating means to designate a point to start extracting the specified connected-image region at an area around the subject image in contact with other images; an erosion treatment means to calculate the distances of the connected-image region parts between the starting point and the surface, and erode the connected-image region data beginning from the surface toward the starting point in the way that the erosion degree may increase for a part located nearer the surface; and a connected-image region extraction means to extract the eroded connected-image region data. The eroded connected-image region data is then separated, and the separated region data or the rest data after the separation is displayed on the monitor as a projected three-dimensional image data.
