To prevent germ propagated in a water collecting pipe from contaminating filtered water even in the case that filtration treatment is continuously carried out by making the inner face side of the water collecting pipe be antibacterial in a membrane module comprising a separation membrane and a water collecting pipe for collecting treated water which is filtered by the separation membrane.
This membrane module comprises a hollow fiber membrane 1 and a water collecting pipe 6 in which the end part of the hollow fiber membrane 1 is housed and the end part of the hollow fiber membrane 1 is so fixed in the water collecting pipe 6 by a potting material 3 as to have a thin and long rectangular cross section shape 4 at right angles to the hollow fiber membrane 1. The water collecting pipe 6 is constituted of a housing 2 and a hollow core 5 made of soft resin. The inner surface side of the water collecting pipe, that is the inner surface side of the core 5, is provided with antibacterial property. A method comprising processes of dissolving an antibacterial agent together with resin for adhesion in a solvent, applying the resultant suspension or solution to the inner surface side of the core, and then drying the resultant core may be employed as the method for providing antibacterial property. A silver based antibacterial agent is preferably used as the antibacterial agent.
