PURPOSE: To improve storage characteristics and cycle characteristics of a battery by composing a negative electrode of material obtained by eliminating more than 3% the surface of an ingot of a hydrogen occluding alloy produced by fusing method and setting the theoretical capacity of the negative electrode at 1.1∼3.5 to the theoretical capacity of a positive electrode.
CONSTITUTION: A negative electrode is composed of active material obtained by eliminating more than 3% the surface of an ingot of a hydrogen occluding alloy produced by fusing method, and the theoretical capacity of the negative electrode is set at 1.1∼3.5 to the theoretical capacity of a positive electrode. Lowering in storage characteristics is thus restricted, change of composition of the hydrogen occluding alloy with advance of charge/discharge cycles is restricted, and internal gas pressure of a battery can be maintained proper. Cycle characteristics of a metal-hydrogen alkali battery of this kind can thus be improved.
