Abstract:
To provide a metal matrix composite having excellent thermal conductivity and particularly a light metal matrix composite to which light metals including aluminum and magnesium are applied as a metal matrix and also to provide its manufacturing method.
The metal matrix composite comprises a metal matrix and a reinforcement and contains, as the reinforcement, carbon nanotubes and short ceramic fibers. The method for manufacturing the metal matrix composite is also provided. The reinforcement is fixed and shaped with an inorganic binder into a preform of ≥0.5 MPa buckling strength, and then the molten matrix metal is impregnated into the preform under pressure, followed by solidification.
