PURPOSE: To provide a honeycomb body with which a required temp. is obtd. by a small current and which is easily producible as a metallic carrier for an electric heating type catalyst device.
CONSTITUTION: A rolled honeycomb body 2 is formed by holding a corrugated sheet material 5 with two sheets of flat sheet materials 4 having aluminum oxide film layers 4b formed by a PVD process on one surface of metallic sheets 4a, where the aluminum oxide film layers 4b is positioned on the outer side, and interposing brazing filler metals 6 between the corrugated sheet material 5 and the flat sheet materials 4, then rolling the sheet materials. The outer side face of the honeycomb body is coated with an outside cylinder 3 having a spacing 3a and the end 2a of the outermost layer of the roll is projected outward in a radial direction from the spacing 3a. Conductor connecting parts 4c, 4d respectively disposed at ends 2b on the flat sheet materials in the central part of the honeycomb body and the end part 2a are connected to a power source, by which a heating element extending to the overall length of the flat sheet materials 4 and the corrugated sheet 5 material is obtd.
