Title:
METALLIC ROLLING ELEMENT FOR TOROIDAL TYPE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3470792
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve surface fatigue strength, rolling fatigue characteristics and durability without necessitating a long time cementation process and causing increase in the costs.
SOLUTION: A continuously variable transmission uses a plurality of metallic rolling elements (an input disc 5, an output disc 9, and a power roller 10) mutually contact through lubricant. In this case, each metallic rolling element is made of low alloy steel for machine structural use containing chrome, the surface of which being subjected to a case hardening process. Among the above surface, a rolling surface is further subjected to a high-frequency hardening process and a tempering process, so that a surface hardness Hv of the rolling contact surface is 750 or more, and an effective hardened-layer thickness is 2 mm or more.
