PURPOSE: To detect impact speed from the time difference, when the difference of flight path is known and to estimate the impact energy.

CONSTITUTION: This method for adjusting the print energy of a type element of typewriter, printer, or the like, presses a type element 6 against a paper by means of a print hammer 2 accelerated by a hammer magnet 1, captures a free hammer flight time as a measure of impact energy and adjusts the duration of power supply, depending on the measure thus captured. By a sensor 4 detecting the start of the power supply to the hammer magnet, print hammer flight times detected from that value is determined for various free flight paths of the print hammer.
