Abstract:
To provide a method and device for evaluating mode group delay characteristics, capable of evaluating the mode group delay characteristics of a multimode fiber using fiber parameters obtained by a simpler method than group delay properties.SOLUTION: A method for evaluating mode delay properties, capable of evaluating the mode group delay characteristics of an optical fiber to be tested includes a mode group delay calculation step of calculating the mode group delay characteristics of the propagation mode in the optical fiber to be tested on the basis of the fact that the approximate solution of the mode group delay characteristics of the optical fiber to be tested can be derived using the group refractive index of a core, the group refractive index of a cladding, a normalization frequency and a normalization propagation constant when a difference between the refractive indexes of the core and the cladding is small.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
