In an apparatus for garbage treatment provided with a treatment part which decomposes garbage biologically, a recovery part for recovering the decomposed garbage, and a deodorization/exhaust part which deodorizes and exhausts odors from the treatment part or the recovery part, an odor sensor is set in an odor guide duct which makes the treatment tank of the treatment part for housing garbage communicate with the deodorization case of the deodorization/exhaust part, and the operation of a thermal catalyst heating means installed in the deodorization/exhaust part and the operation of an exhaust means are controlled corresponding to the concentration of odors detected by the sensor.
