Title:
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING INTERMETALLIC CASTING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3714482
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce residence time of an intermetallic melt in a vessel and thereby to reduce contamination of the melt by casting a molten second metal into a vessel in which a first metal, is charged heating the first and second metals in the vessel to exothermically react and then casting a reactant into a mold without delay.
CONSTITUTION: Ti scrap sheet piece C1 is charged in a melting vessel 54, the inside of a melting chamber 52 is made full of argon and the charge C1 is preheated to a prescribed temp. by an induction coil 68. At the same time, A1 scrap C2 is melted in outer melting vessel 110 and is poured into the melting vessel 54 via a refractory funnel 81. Inside of the melting chamber 52 is evacuated to a required vacuum level and the solid charge C1 and a molten charge C2 are heated/melted to form an intermetallic melt. The melt flows into a chamber 32 having argon atmosphere by gravity by sticking and destroying a closure member 92 and a liner 94 and then flows into a mold cavity 24 via a sprue 28 and respective transverse weirs 31. Thereby the residence time of the melt in the vessel 54 is reduced to obtain the intermetallic casting.
