To provide a method of measuring a knife gap of a shearing machine safely with high precision without entering a dangerous zone.
A measuring jig 11 has a reference surface 12a which can be brought into contact with inside surfaces 4a, 3a of a fixed blade 4 or a movable blade 3. The measuring jig 11 is detachably attached to the inside surfaces 4a, 3a of the fixed blade 4 or the movable blade 3 so as to expose a part of the reference surface 12a of the measuring jig 11 from the fixed blade 4 or the movable blade 3. A sensor 18 arranged in a direction orthogonal to a part of the reference surface 12a of the measuring jig 11 measures the distance (a) to the reference surface 12a of the measuring jig 11. A knife gap g is calculated on the basis of the distance (a) to the reference surface 12a of the measuring jig 11 measured by the sensor 18.
