PURPOSE: To produce a rubber-backed matting with rapid softening of a rubber, in a short time, at a low cost by placing a rubber sheet/mat assembly between a hot platen and a pressure applying device with the rubber sheet adjacent the hot platen.

CONSTITUTION: An assembly 14 of a rubber sheet 16 (lower side) and a mat 17 (upper side) is inserted between a pressure applying device 12 of a liquid pressure apparatus comprising an air bag which is placed above a hot platen 11 and has a flexible film 13 descending towards the platen and the hot platen 11 heated to a softening temperature for softening the rubber sheet, with the rubber sheet 16 adjacent the hot platen. By this, the rubber is infiltrated into the matting 17, it is cured under heat and pressure, and as a result, a rubber- backed matting is obtained. According to this method, the rubber can be softened quickly, and the apparatus is simpler and the production cost is lower, compared with conventional cases.
