Abstract:

PURPOSE: To recover reduced metal with high yield ratio, while inhibiting the formation of reverse reaction between formed metal vapor and oxidizing gas, by spraying the gaseous mixture of the metal vapor and the oxidizing gas formed by the reduction of a metal oxide through a fan shaped nozzle to rapidly cool the mixture.

CONSTITUTION: The mixed material 12 of zinc oxide powder and carbon powder as a reducing agent is charged in a reducing furnace 1 and heated by a heater 5 to reduce zinc oxide and to form the vapor of metallic zinc and CO2 and CO gases. The gaseous mixture of said metallic zinc vapor, CO2 and CO is sprayed through a discharging port 16, a bent pipe 18 and then a fan shaped nozzle 19 into the chamber 22 of a metal vapor-collecting furnace 21 held at a temperature of 500°C under pressure of 50W90Torr, and rapidly cooled by adiabatic expansion below the temperature at which reverse reaction between the metallic zinc vapor and CO2 or CO can occur. The gaseous mixture is brought into collision with the surface of Zn melt 20 in the oven chamber 22 to absorb and recover the Zn vapor is the melt 20.
