Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for applying asphalt roofing, with which heating is not required, neither smoke nor offensive smell is emitted, no release sheet occurs, asphalt roofing is stuck fast and fixed to a substrate in an extremely short time and hardly affected by a weather condition and to obtain a modified asphalt emulsion and modified asphalt roofing used therefor.
SOLUTION: The modified asphalt emulsion is obtained by using a reactive polyvinyl alcohol as an emulsifying agent in an asphalt emulsion in which asphalt is emulsified and dispersed in water. The method for applying asphalt roofing comprises the steps of mixing the modified asphalt emulsion using the reactive polyvinyl alcohol as the emulsifying agent with a crosslinking agent composed of a compound containing two or more hydrazide groups, coating a substrate with the mixture to form an adhesive layer and applying the asphalt roofing to the adhesive layer, while previously forming a layer composed of a gelling agent of the reactive polyvinyl alcohol on the bonded surface of the asphalt roofing.
