PURPOSE: To select a most efficient path, by dividing both X-and Yaxial directions of a workpiece with a specific unit length, by searching a machining position in every specific small area formed thereby to integrate thus searched positions, and by computing a possible machining path for one and the same machining tool.
CONSTITUTION: Machining data 12 and the like in accordance with machining drawings are stored in an external memory device 10. A central control device 30 performs a series of processes in accordance with the numerical data such as coordinate values relating to information inputted through a key-board 32, or the like, and a program stored in the external memory device 10 in order to obtain a machining path and a tooling, and controls the image display on a pattern display device 36. With this arrangement, it is possible to automatically prepare a program for an efficient machining path for the machining path for a workpiece, and therefore, it is possible to automatically eliminate a redundancy path for the machining path when a machining path of a tool is prepared for the workpiece. Thereby it is possible to greatly shorten the machining time of a workpiece of a large size in particular.
