To calculate the local time and date by a mobile computer.
The mobile computer 10 receives a system identification number through a cellular modem 16. A data base where all the system identification numbers of the entire cellular network are listed is provided inside the mobile computer 10 and the data base also provides geographical positions and time bands relating to the respective system identification numbers. Inside the data base, information on whether or not summer time is applied at the geographical position relating to the system identification number is listed as well. When the system identification number is received, the computer 10 scans the data base looking for the same identification number. In the case that matching is found, the computer 10 acquires relating information and calculates the present local system time from the home system time previously stored in the computer 10. In the case that no matching is found, a user is provided with a selection right for updating the data base so as to include the new system identification number.
