PURPOSE: To prevent the development of casting defect in a cylinder block by arranging projection part of a core for water jacket and metallic core for oil hole in a bearing holder forming zone in a mold cavity.
CONSTITUTION: The core 26 for water jacket is arranged as surrounding the cast iron-made sleeve 3, and held by both side molds 191, 192, to form the projection part 29 at lower end face. Further, a third metallic core 303 forming lower hole part 15b of each oil hole 15 in a lower mold 20, is arranged, so that the bearing holder in the cavity C is passed through the forming zone Ca. At the time of casting, molten metal quantity in the bearing holder forming zone Ca is reduced by existence of the core part 25, projection part 29 and the third. metal core 303 and besides by rapid cooling action of the core part 25 and the metallic core 303, the molten metal in the bearing holder forming zone Ca is solidified at early time. Therefore, the development of casting defect in the cylindrical block is prevented.
