To improve the sealability between casting roll end faces and side plates.
A molten metal pool is confined between a pair of the casting rolls 12 by the side plates 18 pressed to the ends of the casting rolls 12 by thrusters 21. The side plates 18 are supported by side plates holders 25. The side plate holders 25 are pivotally connected to the thrusters 21 by pivot pins 26 in such a manner that the holders can tilt about the pivotal connections. The pivot pins 26 are located at a height above the roll gap level between the casting rolls 12. The height is so that effect of outward pressure applied on the side plates 18 by the molten metal of the casting pool rotationally presses the side plates 18 above the pivot pins 26 in such directions that their bottom ends of the side plates 18 are pressed inwardly to produce increased scaling pressure at the bottom of the casting pool.
