To provide a method of cleaning materials contaminated with dioxins, which is capable of decomposing and removing dioxins at ordinary temperature and ordinary pressure.
The method of cleaning materials contaminated with dioxins is comprised of feeding solid materials contaminated with dioxins together with an organic solvent into an extraction tank 2, then extracting the dioxins contained in the contaminated materials at ordinary temperature and ordinary pressure using the solvent, separating the mixture in the extraction tank 2 into solid and liquid, introducing the solvent containing dioxins into a reactor 6, simultaneously sending back the solid content to the extraction tank 2 to repeatedly conduct the extraction by the solvent, irradiating the organic solvent with ultraviolet rays using an ultraviolet lamp 8 to subject dioxins to dechlorination decomposition in the reactor 6, sending back the organic solvent regenerated to the extraction tank 2, thereby the organic solvent is recycled and reused, and taking, as the treated material, the solid content, from which dioxins are removed by the extraction using the organic solvent, out of the system, after subjecting the solid content to solid-liquid separation.
