PURPOSE: To prevent entrapment of scum into a cooling rotating body surface at meniscus part by floating up a cylindrical refractory on molten metal surface and flowing the scum as approaching to the meniscus part with molten metal stream from a molten metal supplying nozzle.
CONSTITUTION: Cylindrical refractories are floated up on the molten metal 5 in pouring basin part 4 constituted with cooling drums 1, 1 and side weirs 2, 2. The refractories 6 flow the scum as approaching to the meniscus part R. By continuing the casting under such condition, as the scum and inclusion, etc., are floated up on the molten metal surface at between the cylindrical refractories 6 and the molten metal discharging nozzle 3 and confined to there and not entrapped to the meniscus part, a cast strip having stable surface characteristic can be produced. As this invention is the method utilizing the molten metal surface and movement of the molten metal, this is easily followed up to change and variation of the molten metal surface height, and visual confirmation to the molten metal surface is facilitated.
