To provide a method for controlling electrolytic current which is capable of improving the surface quality of a metallic band and prolonging the life of rolls by preventing the spark generation between the rolls in equipment and the metallic band and preventing the adhesion of fine powder to the rolls in an electrolyte treatment line of the metallic band.
When the metallic band is electrolyzed via an electrolyte by energizing electrode groups arranged to face a traveling path surface of the metallic band 1 in an electrolytic cell 2 so as to face each other across this surface by current rectifiers 3a, 3b, 4a and 4b for electrolysis, at least one roll among the rolls in contact with the metallic band on the outside of the electrolytic cell is grounded and the current rectifiers for electrolysis are so controlled as to reduce the current between this grounded roll and the grounding part.
