To provide a disk drive for controlling a home-in mode and its method.
This disk drive comprises: a pickup section for radiating light to a disk placed on the disk drive; a motor for shifting the pickup section in the radial direction of the disk; and a control section for detecting the positional information of the pickup section on the basis of a drive pulse of the motor and storing it. The control section controls the generation of a drive pulse of the motor by using the information of a home-in position on the basis of the stored positional information of the pickup section and the drive pulse of the motor. Therefore, a home-in mode can be controlled accurately without using another sensor, and it can be prevented that a noise is caused in a disk drive by home-in mode control and mechanical abrasion is caused.
