To provide a method of controlling an inverter, which can stably rotate a sensorless brushless DC motor after startup of the motor, regardless of the variations in the load.
In this controlling method, the position of a rotor of the brushless DC motor is detected by using the induced voltage of the motor, and the inverter is controlled by switching between a plurality of control signal patterns. In association with switching between the control signal patterns, a time duration TM1, in which the detection of the position of the rotor of the motor is prohibited, is set to invalidate the detection of the position of the rotor of the motor, and the control signal patterns are switched over a predetermined delay time TM2, after the detection of the position of the rotor of the motor. This control method further includes a step (S200) of calculating the actual rotation speed (r) of the brushless DC motor, a step (S300) of calculating the time duration TM1, according to each region segmented by a first segmentation of the actual rotation speed (r), and a step (S400) of calculating the delay time TM2 for delaying the switching between the control signal patterns according to each region segmented by a second, segmentation of the actual rotation speed (r).
