PURPOSE: To maintain the thickness of a light-gage metallic strip always constant in the stage of injecting and quickly cooling molten metal on a rotating cooling roll and producing continuously the light-gage metallic strip by adjusting the position of a crucible for molten metal by measuring the temp. of the roll.
CONSTITUTION: The molten metal in a crucible 3 is injected from a nozzle 3' onto the surface of a cooling roll 1 under high speed rotation whereby the molten metal is quickly cooled and the light gage strip of the metal is continuously produced. The spacing between the front end of the nozzle 3' and the surface of the roll 1 is made constant, whereby the thickness of the light-gage metallic strip is maintined constant. The temp. of the roll 1 is low in the start of the operation and with the injection of the molten metal, said temp. rises, where by the roll expands thermally and the spacing with the nozzle 3' is made smaller, resulting in the increase of the thickness of the light-gage metallic strip. The temp. of the surface of the roll 1 is measured with a thermometer 9 in order to prevent such increase in thickness. The measured temp. is supplied through amplifiers 8, 7 to a pulse motor 5, and the position of a crucible 3 is adjusted by the rotation of a feed screw 2 by the revolution of said motor, whereby the spacing between the nozzle 3' and the surface of the roll 1 is always maintained constant and the thickness of the light-gage metallic strip is maintained constant.
