PURPOSE: To allow the improvement in operating rate and the reduction of a roll cost by bringing cooling water into contact with a top roll and absorbing the water by a water absorbing roll rotating in the direction opposite from the top roll.
CONSTITUTION: The weld zone 2 of the electric resistance welded tube 1 is pressed by the top roll 3 from above. The cooling water is injected to the top roll 3 by a cooling water nozzle 6. The cooling water is brought into contact with the top roll 3 and is absorbed by the water absorbing roll 5 rotating in the direction opposite from this roll before the cooling water flows down from the top roll 3. The top roll is cooled while the spilling of the cooling water onto the weld zone of the electric resistance welded tube is averted in this way.
