To provide a method for detecting an antagonistic microorganism against microorganisms of the genus Pythium, the antagonistic microorganism and a soil blight controlling agent produced by using the microorganism.
An antagonistic microorganism having biological controlling effect on the blight caused by microorganisms of the genus Pythium is detected by preparing soil contaminated with Pythium genus microorganisms, inoculating and mixing the specimen microorganism to the contaminated soil, sowing a plant seed, culturing the plant and evaluating the suppressing effect of the specimen microorganism on the plant blight caused by the Pythium genus microorganism. The soil contaminated with Pythium genus microorganism contains the minimum number of Pythium genus microorganism cells necessary for developing the blight on all plants sowed and cultured on the contaminated soil. The antagonistic microorganism against Pythium genus microorganism can be selected in high efficiency under a condition close to natural environment. The antagonistic microorganism against Pythium genus microorganism obtained by the detection method can be used as a biological controlling agent for damping-off, etc., caused by Pythium genus microorganism.
