PURPOSE: To enhance the success rate of the automatic changeover take-up operation by handing over a yarn at the time of changing-over from a full wound package to an empty bobbin without releasing the yarn from a traversing mechanism, and cutting the yarn when the yarn length in contact with the surface of the empty bobbin has attained a certain value.

CONSTITUTION: A spandex yarn Y is wound on a bobbin 14-1 to form a package 15 while the yarn Y is traverssed by a traverse device 5, and when the package 15 attains a specified amount, a turret device 3 is rotated to move the full wound bobbin 15 to a position, which is free of contacting a contact roll 11, and an empty bobbin 1402 in standby to the position of contacting the contact roll 11. Then a bunch wind means 20 is operated to make rod-shaped winding (bunch wind) of a transfer yarn CY on the full wound bobbin 15, and the yarn is cut by actuating a slide cutter edge 23, and at the same time, the termination of he yarn is grasped by a grasping means 24. When the contacting yarn length of empty bobbin 13 attains a specified value, the yarn is cut by a cutter 19 for yarn cutting.
