PURPOSE: To reduce erroneous collation ratio by discriminating the feature of a fingerprint pattern in more detail in a moving window fingerprint collating method and its device.
CONSTITUTION: In a moving window fingerprint collating device having a binary image storage part 2, a window image segmenting means 4, a reading means 16 and a collation means 12, the device is provided with a small window image registering means 14 registering a small registered window image with segmenting positional information in a fingerprint dictionary storage part 8 by relating both of them, a reading means reading the small registered window image and the segmenting positional information on the small registered window image from the fingerprint dictionary storage part 8 when the collation error in the collation means 12 is below a preliminarily determined threshold, and a small input window extraction means 18 segmenting the small input window image to be designated by the segmenting positional information of the small window image read from the fingerprint dictionary storage part 8 from the input fingerprint image of the binary image storage part 2.
