Abstract:

To provide a method and a device for controlling a continuously adjustable camshaft timing adjuster device which is reliable and reliably operated.

In an internal combustion engine having a crankshaft and at least one camshaft (12), the phase position of the camshaft is changed to the crankshaft by a camshaft timing adjuster device (10), and the valve control time is continuously changed. Adaptation of the camshaft to the crankshaft is performed so that the phase position of the camshaft to the crankshaft is determined as an actual value, the phase position as the actual value is monitored during the operation of the internal combustion engine (110), the camshaft timing adjuster device is dependent on a variable target value, and the phase position as the actual value is equal to the target value (102, 115).
