Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an error correcting method and an error correcting device capable of applying soft decision Viterbi decoding in which Euclidean distance is made to be metric to a punctured code subjected to multivalued quadrature amplitude modulation.
SOLUTION: In these error correcting method and error correcting device, a convolutional code processing part 3 performs convolutional coding of a transmission information sequence, a punctured code processing part 4 performs punctured coding of the transmission information sequence, a multivalued modulation processing part 2 receives a signal subjected to multivalued modulation, a multivalued demodulation processing part 5 demodulates the signal, and an improvement Viterbi decoding processing part 8 uses the demodulated code sequence for Viterbi decoding with the demodulated code sequence as it is without inserting a dummy bit.
