Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for testing a digital accelerometer through the use of a sigma-delta(Σ-Δ) converter.
SOLUTION: A sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter 26 is operationally connected an accelerometer 24 which outputs an analog acceleration signal indicating collision acceleration and outputs a pulsewidth-modulated gate enable signal GES with a value indicating acceleration signal. The GES signal is AND- computed with a clock signal and generates a pulse density signal indicating an acceleration signal. A monitor circuit determines whether no less than one pulse density signal is generated when the signal GES is high (FLAG1) or a pulse density signal is generated when the signal GES is low (FLAG2).
