PURPOSE: To improve the operation in efficiency and in work environment by a method wherein on fused slag in the reducing period taken in a slag pan from an electric furnace water is sprinkled in a prescribed quantity so as to quickly pulverize the slag produced in the reducing period and the pulverized matter is sucked by a suction device.
CONSTITUTION: A slag suction device 3 is provided with several movable suction heads 4 so that all the slag can be sucked easily. A fraw 2 is equipped with a piping for sprinkling of water as a means to force slag to be pulverized in a short time. The sprinkling piping is provided with nozzles 6 capable of spray cooling or shower cooling. A slag-cooling device 7 is provided for part of the piping downstream from the position of the suction heads 4 so that the piping can be prevented from deformation by the heat of the slag. For the body of the suction device a tilting device 8 is provided which enables a slag pan 1 to be drawn out and put back easily. To effect the pulverization by cooling by sprinkling of water, the use of water should preferably to 0.01-0.04m3 per ton of slag. The pulverized slag collected by the suction heads 4 is collected in a fixed hopper 9 or a movable suction vehicle capable of conveyance.
