PURPOSE: To evaluate the durability of a magnetic disk by applying a wind pressure to the upper face of a magnetic head in the same condition as a magnetic disk of an actual magnetic disk device, and bringing the magnetic head into contact with the rotating magnetic disk, and measuring dust due to this contact by a dust measuring instrument, and checking the quantity and the size of dust.

CONSTITUTION: This device consists of a spindle 2 which supports a magnetic disk 3 and rotates it at a prescribed rotative speed, a carriage arm 6 which holds a magnetic head 8 through a spring arm 7, a carriage 5 which drives the carriage arm 6, a wind pressure giving means 9 which applies a wind pressure to the upper face of the magnetic head for a prescribed time with a prescribed period, and a dust measuring instrument 11 which measures dust generated at the time of contact of the magnetic head 8 to the magnetic disk 3.
