PURPOSE: To rationally produce a crystal-type filter medium by continuously and automatically carrying out respective forming and cutting stage, contracting stage, rounding stage, etc., of a tape material.
CONSTITUTION: Roller couples 5 and 5a and 7 and 7a are engaged with each other like a gear while meshing the rugged parts corresponding to each other, and positively driven. Consequently, corrugations with a specified inequal pitch are provided to the tape material, the filter medium 1 is subtly guided to prevent the leveling of the corrugations, and the medium is cut at a specified position. Furthermore, while the positions of the maximum and minimum corrugated parts of the filter medium are surely retained and controlled, the medium is sent into a contraction drum 11, preformed into a shape having a semicircular cross section therein, and finally formed reasonably by a rounding chute into a finished filter element having a desired circular cross section. Since the respective stages can be continuously and automatically carried out, the productivity is improved as compared with the conventional process, and a stabilized-quality product can be obtained.
