PURPOSE: To provide the subject method and device in multiple functions in order to change the color recording order according to the purpose of application and to ensure the proper expression (recording) of colors for each purpose of application.

CONSTITUTION: An image generating device has a digital copying function to perform the recording based on the signal given from a scanner 22 and a thermal copying function to perform the recording based on the signal received from a computer 21. A printer part 10 is added to the image generating device to apply the multicolor printing to a recording medium by means of the color generating materials for three colors, i.e., yellow, magenta and cyanogen or four colors, i.e., yellow, magenta, cyanogen and black together with an image information reading part, a means which sets the recording order of three or four colors in accordance with each function at the image information reading part, and an image processing part 23 which processes the images based on the signal received from the image information reading part and sends the image generating signals to the part 10 based on a set order.
