PURPOSE: To suppress the losses of the quantity of heat retained by high temp. slabs right after casting or rolling effectively and to perform receiving and delivering of the slabs efficiently by stacking plural pieces of said slabs quickly, and supplying the same by each piece just prior to the time needed by hot rolling processes.
CONSTITUTION: High temp. slabs right after continuous casting or blooming are transferred with a roller table 2, and are stacked on a traverser carriage 4 in, for example, 4 pieces per heap, by a slab stacker 3. The carriage 4 is drawn out onto rails 7' successively, and with 4 pieces each as one unit, they are handled with a slab loading crane 5 and are loaded as 8 pieces per heap on a slab carriage 6. The is transported on rails 7 to a slab yard 17, where the stacked slabs are stacked on a slab car 9 by a slab yard crane 8. If necessary, they are loaded on the car 9 after waiting in a heat insulating pit 10. The car 9 is run on rails 7", and the stacked slabs are received on a slab lifter 11. The slabs are unloaded by each piece by a pickup machine 12 on a roller table 13 and are loaded into a heating furnace 14.
