Abstract:

To provide a method of embodying an operation in a gigabit Ethernet (R) GE-PON (Gigabit Ethernet (R)-Passive Optical Network) system and to provide its Ethernet frame structure.

The GE-PON system constitutes upward and downward frames based on a variable-length Ethernet (R) frame, and adopts a TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) system to upward transmission in the tree structure of point to multipoint linking. It provides the structure of the variable-length Ethernet (R) which can efficiently contain a gigabit Ethernet (R) traffic in the GE-PON system. A process, such as ranging, etc. is performed in the GE-PON system regarding this variable-length Ethernet (R) frame.
