PURPOSE: To visually confirm and quantize the spread-around state of the lubricant by mixing a proper amount of fluorescent paint with the rail lubricant and applying the rail gauge of a testing device with the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: The rail gauge 2 which is sectioned in a rail shape is provided spirally on the outer peripheral surface of a drum 1 and driven by a motor 3, a continuously variable transmission 4, and a driving shaft 5 to rotate. Further, a wheel-shaped disk 6 is mounted on the gauge 2 and driven through a gear mechanism 7. Here, a small amount of fluorescent paint is mixed with the lubricant to be tested and the shoulder part of the gauge 2 is coated with the mixture; when the disk 6 is run on the gauge 2, the lubricant is compressed by the flange of the disk 6 to spread around to the peak surface of the gauge 2. For the purpose, the gauge 2 is irradiated with ultraviolet light and the fluorescent light generation part is photographed to decide the spread-around part; and the area of the fluorescent light generation part is found to measure the spread-around quantity quantitatively.
