To solve the problem that it is hard to surely fix selenium by a method in which a solid waste material is treated by adding only a metal fixing agent in the case when the selenium is contained in the solid waste material such as incineration ash or fly ash and the problem that an additive such as ferrous chloride, aluminum sulfate or iron polysulfate must be added in an amount of 30 wt.% or more based on the weight of the solid waste material so as to fix selenium in the solid waste material in the case when the selenium is fixed by a method using the additive such as ferrous chloride, aluminum sulfate, iron polysulfate or the like together with the metal capturing agent.
The method of fixing selenium in the solid waste material comprises adding a reducing metal chloride and a metal fixing agent containing a dithiocabamic acid group and/or a thiol group to the solid waste material containing selenium.
