Title:
METHOD FOR HEATING MOLDING POWDER FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH11277202
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To form a uniform and sufficient molten molding powder layer and to suppress the longitudinal surface crack of a slab by subjecting the region of the molding powder layer near an immersion nozzle in a casting mold for continuous casting to dielectric heating with microwaves.

The molding powder region (the region enclosed by a, b, c, d in Fig.) near the immersion nozzle 4 enclosed by the long size part of the casting mold at a distance half the calculated width wf of the thin molten layer of the molding powder on both sides from the central part of the casting mold is subjected to dielectric heating, by which the sufficient thickness of the molten layer of the molding powder is obtd. The inflow defect of the molten molding powder between the casting mold and a solidified shell is prevented and the local heat extraction defect of the casting mold is eliminated, by which the surface crack of the slab is prevented. The dielectric heating by the microwaves directly heats the molding powder and, therefore, the molding powder is uniformly heated from the surface layer to the inside thereof and since the heating is executed in the casting mold, such heat extract as in a powder transporting stage does not occur of and the release of the heat into the atmosphere is prevented.
